America Is Still Melting In The Pot…Or Is It?

Friday, July 18th, 2008

The great American experiment has been chugging along for over 200 years and it has, for the most part, been a successful endeavor. The Great Melting Pot has produced some amazing people in its relatively brief history. Sometimes, however, when too many ingredients are poured in too rapidly, the fire beneath becomes overburdened.

Through most of the 20th century immigrants to America eagerly leapt into the pot and willfully allowed themselves to become part of the mix, revelling in their new-found home and enthusiastically embracing its culture. Then something changed near the end of the century; new additions began to cling to the side of the pot in an attempt to retain some of their original composition by not submerging themselves fully into what I call the stew. This corresponds to the emergence of hyphenated nationality labels. “Whatyouwill-Americans”, e.g.

The stew began to change with these new ingredients being added, even more so than it should have. The flavor was always in flux, true, but the basic composition of the stew was always about a mixture of components. I am at a loss in explaining this change.

Yes, the flavor changes with the ingredients of a stew, but the stew remains relatively unchanged in appearance. This is because everyone cooks down to a common broth. There is change, but the change is so gradual as to be nearly imperceptible. That is, so long as one of the ingredients doesn’t thrash about, wailing, as it loses its core identity at the boiling point. One must agree that such an occurrence would be most noticeable to the cook.

Up until the latter part of the 20th century there were no reluctant ingredients being poured into the pot. Sure, they still hit the plate as either orange carrots or white potatoes, but they all shared the plate without quarrel. It was a stew from the “pot”, and all were equally consumed without prejudice (3-year-old-racist-picky-eaters notwithstanding). Now we have the ingredients demanding special privileges and prominence on the plate.

To really throw a wrench into the mix, pomegranate has insisted on not only being added to the stew (something which, to my knowledge at least, is unprecedented), but has demanded even further that it be highlighted on the menu. Outrage, I say.

I think the cook needs to turn up the heat and use the ladle to clear the sides of the pot, stirring frequently. We need a common identity once again in order to survive.

The Big Iraq War Lie

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Yes. I have finally decided that I can no longer live with the lie that is the Iraq War and am ready to speak out against that lie. Many people are now feeling the effects of it and are struggling in their day-to-day lives to cope. It’s time to expose this lie and let the people know once and for all that they have been duped.     Many will be angry with me from this point forward, but I truly believe that the cost is worth my conscience and so will not lose too much sleep over the anger of others. Sorry. The suffering of my fellow Americans is at the hands of their very own government, and I find that fact unconscionable. How our elected officials can sleep at night with the knowledge of what their lies have inflicted upon its citizenry is something I will wrestle with until the pain finally ceases.

A barrel of oil today surpassed the mark of $138/bbl. It rose by nearly ten percent, in one day. Gas prices in the next week, if this is a sustainable record, will top $5 per gallon, without question. And yet, we have been led to believe by our elected Congresspersons that this war was a war for oil. Despite the fact that we kicked the virtual shit out of the vaunted Iraqi Republican Guard in record time and are still waging an ongoing battle with a ragtag contingient of well-armed, so-called insurgents (funded and trained by a sovereign neighbor), we have not reaped the spoils of war. Those spoils would ostensibly equate to cheaper oil for the victorious conquerors.

So one must ask this of their “public servants”, as well as the willing dupes who echo the tripe emanating from the lips of those servants: If this was an evil act perpetrated on the Middle East by a crazed oil man and his cohorts for nothing more than oil…why are we being subjected to the whims of those people who control that oil to this day?

With the resources America has beneath its own soil, it would stand to reason that the “oil barons” could have exploited their own land without shedding a drop of blood, save for the occassional dropping of an irate and charging female moose or caribou, however unfortunate and even more pertinent, rare, that scenario may have been. The reason this has not happened is not because those “oil barons” didn’t think of it. It’s because our own elected officials care more for their coveted positions than they do for the people.

The people have been clamoring for cheaper fuel since before anyone can remember. Bureaucrats have used that demand as a leveraging tool for equally as long. Are the lies a new tactic? Probably not, but the acceptance of them as validation for a political stance is relatively new, since people seem more willing in these times to slit their own throats to promote a belief contrary to their own best interests so long as it is fed to them by a lying government.

The Iraq war was not about oil. The ideological war is, and it may well be our undoing. God bless America.

The Audacity To Argue With God

Monday, May 5th, 2008

I have never been accused of being an overtly religious man, though I was raised with the basic tenets of a belief in God and His creation. I have defended His existence in the face of psuedo-science and have been called upon to provide concrete proof that He does exist at all. The proof is all around us everyday if one would only see, but to put it on paper in a mathematical calculation is impossible, to be sure.

Like any good attorney can no more prove the innocence of his client to a skeptical jury, neither can one prove either of the theories of God. He cannot be proved nor dis-proved.

There are many layers of trust that go into both ends of the theological spectrum, both from deep crimson to light purple. One side argues that only a God could have created all that we know while the other claims it all to be some great cosmic accident which we were fortunate enough to stumble upon. What atheists and agnostics fail to comprehend is the question that believers inevitably ask; where did we come from, and how did we “stumble upon anything” if there was once nothing?

Where we have gone horribly wrong has to do with the day when Men began to feel independent enough to leave God’s nest and fly on their own. Certainly we have always been given that freedom from God, and we have tested the tethers for ages, but now we’ve gotten to the “ungrateful teenager” stage in our history. Suddenly, like rebellious youths, we not only feel that we know better than the Father, but we have made the audacious leap to denial of His existance. He’s become irrelevant, at least to some.

All I can picture is some self-righteous Liberal standing nose-to-nose with God on his Judgement Day, arguing over his “bed-time” moments before being smitten for his insolence and being denied forever the cozy resting place he once took for granted. I, for one, have never bought into the smug comfort that non-believers have projected. The claim that they know they will languish in a dark hole and yet don’t care. Or the claim that they are just “a-okay” with ceasing to exist, for eternity. There may be some hard-core anti-God people out there who believe that they are totally alone, but I feel nothing but pity for them.

The rest will seek His forgiveness on their dying days. Of this, I have no doubt. Will they feel remorse for the way they treated God’s believers over the course of their lives? I have no idea, unless God compels them to do so, but the rest of us would never know, anyway. Nevertheless, I’d bet the ranch that they will be grateful for the first, and last, time in their lives.

Scant moments before they close their physical eyes forever, and before they see for the first time, they will know.

Deadly Weapons

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

I’m…confused, I guess would be the best way to put it. Aside from the fact that we now have a “group” fighting against every conceivable societal ill, these groups also define situations to suit their respective causes, and no one in the media seems to ever notice the contradictions. Perhaps they simply choose to ignore them.

Case in point: MADD (Mother’s Against Drunk Driving) has a noble platform, however convoluted it may have become with the ether of power, that is dedicated to eradicating the horrors of losing loved ones to drunken motorists. One of the tenets of their charter is the definition of a motor vehicle as a “deadly weapon”. I can understand that; an object somewhere in the vicinity of 3000 pounds that can accelerate to 60 MPH in the span of, say, 10 seconds can be lethal.

Many liberal-minded people would be enthusiastic about this definition. But…when it’s not convenient, that is another matter.

In New York City, three police officers were recently acquitted of murder charges in the shooting death of Sean Bell, a young black man who was out with friends, late at night, enjoying his bachelor party. After the acquittal, “civil rights leader” Al Sharpton mobilized a large contingient of family and friends of Mr. Bell and began vociferously protesting the verdict, claiming that New York City police officers don’t have the right to “gun down an un-armed man”.

Testimony in the trial stated that when police officers identified themselves at the scene, Mr. Bell attempted to either leave the scene in a hurry or tried to run down the officers with his car. Officers felt that their lives were in jeopardy and opened fire on the vehicle.

My question then is, if a motor vehicle can be classified as a deadly weapon in a DWI case, how can the Reverend Sharpton make the claim that Sean Bell was “un-armed” on the night he was killed by police who, ostensibly, were acting in accordance with police procedure in regards to self preservation? I must also wonder that if the police had crashed a speeding cruiser into Mr. Bell’s car, killing him, whether they would feel the same outrage.

More Than Obama’s Problem

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Sometimes, while digging for treasure, one finds something that was never sought, something not wanted, and certainly something that would have been best left buried if not for the magnitude of the discovery.Talk radio shows have been atwitter over the Barack Obama-Bill Ayers connection for weeks now, a story that has been largely ignored by Big Media. I decided to find out for myself what the hubbub was about, but I found a much more disturbing story in the process. While we have a Presidential candidate rubbing elbows with an admitted felon and domestic terrorist, the odds of said candidate occupying the oval office are slim, and with the revelations springing forth daily, those odds get slimmer. Still cause for concern to be sure, but not something I consider a grave risk. What I did find out goes much deeper into the mindset of modern America and our sensibilities regarding right and wrong. People who are already leftists need not read further, for you will only be heartened. People who fret over the education that their children receive in Universities should pay all heed.

There was once a time in our nation when decent people would recoil in horror in learning that their children were not only in the same room with a criminal, but that the criminal was their teacher. Many of us are already highly disgusted with the liberal indoctrination pervasive in our universities, but how many of us knew the extent of the damage? How could we even imagine that former sworn enemies of the U.S. Government, people who openly declared war against their country, would one day hold tenured positions of prestige in our colleges?

Bill Ayers was a member of the Weather Underground, a group of Vietnam Anti-War Protestors who bombed the Pentagon and attempted to blow up the Capitol Building in the late 60’s, early 70’s. He’s also an apparent pal of Barack Obama’s. But this website, which contains a very interesting video, shows just what Ayers was doing as a young man. Unfortunately, it’s about much more than this one man and his current relationship with Obama. The people associated with Ayers, killers and traitors all, are now “educating” our young adults. A sampling:

Bernardine Dohrn – Part of the leadership of the Weather Underground,
Dohrnwasconsidered the organization’s figurehead. She spent the 1970s
livingundergroundand was on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list. Today, Dohrn is
anassociateprofessor and director at Northwestern University’s Children
andJustice Center.
Mark Rudd – Rudd was best known for his role in the 1968Columbia protests.
As partof the Weather Underground’s leadership, he livedunderground for several
yearsduring the 1970s. He now teaches at a juniorcollege in New Mexico.

Bill Ayers – A central figure in theWeathermen, Ayers lived underground
forten years, an experience he wrote aboutin his memoir, Fugitive Days.
Nowmarried to Dohrn, Ayers is currently a schoolreform activist and a professor
ofeducation at the University of Illinois atChicago.

Click on the link at “A sampling” and read the rest. It is absolutely frightening that these people have been accredited as teachers and professors. People who, by their own admissions, declared war on their own government and vowed to destroy the America we knowtoday. Teaching legions of young adults, like our kids, whatever it is that they believe today. It is…astounding.

Scopes v. State, Again

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

Back in 1925, John Scopes decided to incorporate the teachings of Darwin into his curriculum, an act that landed hin in deep trouble with the State of Tennessee. It was the trial that made Clarence Darrow a household name. It also pitted science against something that is usually unshakeable; faith.

Faith is something that cannot be proven, it is simply believed. As a consequence, it also cannot be disproven, only scoffed at by non-believers. Science, on the other hand, must be proven to be believed.

So what happens when scientists begin to insist that their findings be taken on blind faith? Aside from the obvious chaos it creates, it wreaks havoc on the general public, many of whom take headlines at face value and rarely have the time or the inclination to investigate further for themselves. In other words, they have faith in the scientists. Here’s why that can be a dangerous thing.

California is considering making the theory of anthropogenic global warming a state mandated curricula, effectively teaching the children that their parents are responsible for destroying the planet. Despite the fact that there is much dissent on that “conclusion”, the idea is to foment a particular attitude towards the problem regardless of settled fact.

Too bad the moniker of Scientology is already spoken for by Elron Hubbard. The name would have been perfect for AGW disciples. Hey, maybe if Al Gore makes a carbon offset offer to Tom Cruise, they can work out a deal for the copyrights.

What Hath We Wrought?

Friday, February 15th, 2008

I felt the need to write this down while the subject matter was still fresh in everyone’s minds, what with the recent shooting by a former student. The news wires and the blogosphere alike are already working feverishly to find solutions to what is increasingly being referred to as an “epidemic”. I maintain that solutions may prove to be elusive since I also maintain that we created the problem in the first place.

Since the very first moment that Man attained cognitive reasoning he has strived to improve virtually everything around him. There are those who would argue that the effort has not been without fault and collateral damage, and I would agree. Man was not designed to be perfect and we have no business trying to achieve perfection in an inarguably chaotic environment, but it seems we will never learn.

Baby Boomers grew up watching Saturday morning cartoons. Most of us suffered no ill effects from the “carnage” we witnessed as Bugs Bunny shot Yosemite Sam in the face point blank with a cannon. More importantly, none of us ever thought that it would be a good idea to try the same on our friends. We had rules we lived by and were well grounded in them. More important still is the fact that our parents strictly enforced those rules, and they were backed up by the neighbors, whom we feared equally as much as our parents.

In this litigious society we have conjured, it is incredibly ironic that some Boomers now insist that “it takes a village” to raise a child. I can say with certainty that if one of “the villagers” today attempted discipline such as I received at the hands of Mrs. Carey from across the street, they would be arrested and incarcerated for child abuse. Their own children would subsequently live in squallor in the wake of the massive multi-million dollar lawsuits that would ensue.

We have sought perfection by removing the stigma of the loser in making winners and losers terms that no longer apply. If one child loses, his self esteem may be impaired. At the same time, we drill into our childrens’ psyches the need to excel at studies. Why? So that they become successful in life. Is it any wonder that they are mentally discombobulated?

Add to all of this the fact that we have become so paranoid about letting the kids out to play, as we did as children, that we keep them indoors and give them “safe” activities like virtually shooting virtual people on the TV monitors through the wonders of X-Box. Discombobulated just made the leap to psychotic, combined with a dose of desensitization to violence. What a formula.

What we have accomplished through our arrogant social engineering endeavors since the 1980’s is evidenced by the violence we have seen perpetrated by young adults, to a certain degree, and teenagers to a larger degree. We have removed “personal responsibility” from the vocabulary and the societal conciousness of parents and children alike. So what we have now is a generation of people who feel entitled to success while expecting immunity from any form of competition, and they are angry when the formula does not work.

Oddly, while they seemingly exhibit all the signs of mental incapacity, they are still savvy enough to know where to strike. They are deranged enough to kill wantonly and yet they possess the understanding that only they will be the bearer of firearms in a “gun-free” zone. Competition removed coupled with guaranteed “success”.

Every facet of authority and punditry is engaged in a combined effort to “fix” the problems presented by these rampant killings. The methods they propose will only make matters worse. They are still in pursuit of perfection.

My solution is to get the kids out playing. Let them fend for themselves in the schoolyards, learning how to deal with the harsh realities life serves up. Let them learn how to win, and how to get over loss. And for God’s sake, let them experience a well-intentioned ear-tug from Mrs. Carey.

And perhaps the most important tool we can utilize to expedite a return to a more simple time; if we let the kids out to play, make the punishment for anyone who would harm them swift and most severe. Make it clear that we are seeking a return to better days and anyone who attempts to impede that “progress” will be harshly dealt with.

The existence of guns is not the problem and therefore, removing them will not be an effective corrective measure. That much should be obvious by now. No, what is needed is a correction in the mindset of the kids, an undoing of the damage we have done.

The Deafening Silence

Monday, February 11th, 2008
George Orwell’s timing may have been off by a bit, but his vision was true enough. Call it what you will, novel or prophecy, but 1984 is certainly approaching fast. Yet, there is an eerie complacency amongst the populace that has not been demonstrated in regards to The Patriot Act. I find that odd, to say the least.

On the one hand, we have an act of Congress, albeit at the behest of the President, that is very large in scope and was enacted in direct response to one of the worst attacks perpetrated against us in this countries history. On the other, we have a creeping encroachment on the very liberties we hold dear and yet, the alleged champions of such have been largely silent. I have yet to hear one peep of protest from the ACLU or any of the myriad individual plaintiffs who have continually been heard mourning the loss of privacy as a result of the Patriot Act.

The Patriot Act was designed to protect us from further attack. The arguments against the act were that we should never surrender liberty for security. Fine, that is a completely reasonable ideology. So why is it ok to fulfill the prophecy of 1984 to accomplish the same goal on a smaller scale? There’s the rub; smaller scale equals under the radar. Cancer doesn’t suddenly knock you down and kill you; it begins undetected and slowly spreads until you die. Government has been studying…

Did I neglect to identify the creeping encroachment? Ah yes, I believe I did. Let’s get to that, my apologies.

The District of Columbia has begun monitoring live cameras around the city. New York City is already working on installing surveillance cameras throughout the cities parks. How far behind the rest of the country may be is anyone’s guess but the question remains; why is this being ignored? Why are the masses content to bask in the security of being watched at every turn for their safety, but incensed when they think someone may be listening to their phone calls?

Again, it’s all about baby steps. Baby steps that will stomp us flat when the child matures. It’s easy to spot an imposing figure and assume he is a threat to your well being. No one suspects any such thing from the toddler. Nor do they usually expect the worst from that nagging pain, the pain of cancer working its magic.

The Agenda Shows Its Face

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Why are so many scientists and climatologists being routinely dismissed as heretics when they oppose the “establishment” regarding anthropogenic global warming? The question raises two very interesting issues. While the Baby Boomers are the ones mostly responsible for the battle being waged over global warming, it is contrary to the belief systems of their youth.

For instance, the Boomer movement was all about fighting the establishment. “Damn the Man”. Funny how life works out, isn’t it? But there is another glaring contradiction in their philosophy that adds to the bi-polar nature of their crusades, and that is the self-adversarial conflict which will be hard to reconcile once people begin to really pay attention.

Before global warming took on such a prominent role in the arena of “worthy causes”, there was and still is the age-old battle cry to energize the now-wobbly kneed; “The Rich and the Evils of Capitalism”. Here’s where the paths diverge.

This article is the first glimpse of the true driving force behind Al Gore and the IPCC. The headline?
MCX Launches Futures Trading In Carbon Credits

Carbon credits are soon to be a hot (pardon the pun) commodity. Well, well, well. So it would seem the anti-establishment Boomers have found a way to get rich quick afterall, something they viewed with utter disdain in their youth. To make matters worse, they seem not the slightest bit queasy about scaring the bejeebers out of people to do it. Nor do they seem at concerned about what it will do to world economies in the process, and ultimately, The Poor, whom they claim to care deeply about.

I’m beginning to believe in the old axiom: “Give ‘em enough rope, and they’ll hang themselves”. The true agenda has shown its face. All people have to do is look.

Freedom’s Slow Bleed

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Sometimes I gaze at my dog when he’s sleeping and wonder what he thinks of his life. At times, I envy him. He looks so content sleeping in my warm house with not a care in the world. I take good care of him, and he wants for nothing, and nothing is really expected of him. As I leave for work in the morning is the time I envy him most. I glance back at him and wish I could trade places with him, if just for a day. What a life; eat, play and sleep.

So I have to wonder, with the life he has, where he gets fed and loved, why is he constantly looking for a way either over or under the fence in the back yard? Does he hate me, or resent me? No, that can’t be it. Anyone who has ever owned a dog knows the look of adoration in a dog’s eyes. So it can only be one thing that he craves.

     Freedom.

He wants to be able to come and go as he pleases. That means that while he loves me, and while he has every intention to return, he nevertheless longs to explore what’s on the other side of the fence. He wants to be free.

Freedom is something I used to believe was ingrained in the human spirit, something which we craved above all else; something that we’ve historically been willing to die for. So why is it that so many are so willing to give it up? Is it because it is not being wrenched from our grasp, but being bled from us like grains of fine sand through one’s fingers? Is it really possible that so many cannot see it happening? Apparently, it is, and it’s tragic.

What is almost as tragic is the fierce reaction from those who refuse to see. Some reading this will think that the whole article is about an isolated incident, and will scoff loudly. What they fail to do is to step away from the small, individual line far enough to see the entire drawing. Think about your neighbor moving his fence one inch per year closer to your house. One inch per year, and 12 years later, without your even noticing, and he has a foot of your property as his own.

Governments both federal and local in this country are slowly eroding our basic freedoms “for the good of society”. They are doing this by instituting punative taxes on that which they deem detrimental. Corporations are beginning to demand that employees behave in a specified way or face termination. We are being shaped, molded and herded. They are attempting to make us all conform to a standardized template.

I understand that some of the reasons may be well intended. I also understand that there are those who wish to have a larger entity looking over them, taking care of them, making sure they are eating properly and exercising regularly. I am not one of them.

All I want to do is get over that damned fence and be free.
