Proof That America Has Gone ‘Round The Bend

Monday, February 19th, 2007
As if we few remaining sane Americans didn’t already notice that the bus was devoid of a live driver, one look out the windshield at the approaching crevasse will be more than enough confirmation. “Houston, this is Liberty. We are going down, I repeat, we are going down!”

Over 40 years ago we had a nemisis. The Soviet Empire and communism were firmly ensconced on our radar and we were united in the fear of her and the resolution to defeat her. Way back when, the Democratic Party still loved America, but had different ideas for what was in her best interest. OK, honest debate, no problem there. Then the Democrats nominated a Catholic as their candidate for President of the United States! “A Catholic!“, they shrieked.

Today, the Soviet Union has been replaced by a new nemisis. It is an enemy much more deadly and volatile than the old USSR mainly because at least Kruschev played by a certain set of rules. Countries, boundaries, armies and brute strength. This new enemy, radical Islam, plays by no rules whatsoever, except the rule of mayhem, as oxymoronic as that may sound. They don’t want to be left alone, they don’t want to try to live in peace, and there are no demands that can be met besides total subjugation or death. And neither is negotiable.

All of that being said, we have a new candidate for President of the United States. He is Muslim by birth despite his claims to be a practicing Christian. His father was a Muslim and his middle name is Hussein. Oh, and he’s a Democrat.

He is none other than Barack Hussein Obama, the man our own left wing media and so-called “good Americans” have fallen in love with, and whom they defend vigorously against the “outrageous attacks regarding his name and heritage”. It seems we are not allowed, free speech notwithstanding, to question his Muslim background. That is considered hateful and biased.

Enter the Republican presidential wannabe, Mitt Romney. Former Governor Romney (R-MA), is having enough trouble with some conservatives for stances considered to be liberal. Now he faces a new challenge…ready for it?

He’s a Mormon! (GASP!) Yes ladies and gentlemen, a God-fearing Mormon. It has become perfectly acceptable for the press to openly question the qualifications of a person of any Christian denomination. Sadly, it is not only the left raising these questions, but why aren’t they defending Romney on the same grounds that they defend Obama? Because they are giddy at the sight of the right attacking the right. Or more accurately, Christians attacking their own. And yet not one peep in the main stream media about the utter hypocrisy at play here.

The wheels on the bus go round and round…

   And the driver is dead.

Societal Woes

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

There is a stigma today that didn’t exist for the previous generation, the very tenants of which are so diametrically opposed to our current mores that we need counseling just to sort them out. While our parents and grandparents were no doubt fine folk, they had skeletons, the likes of which we cannot begin to conceive, setting up comfy camps in their closets. Looking back, we can envision our elders, as children, actually setting up imaginary teas with the demons we feared, those on which we slammed the closet door shortly before retiring for the night.

While the lighthearted reader may assume that I am about to slam my own kin, I must caution…my dissertation is in praise of them. They knew well their demons and were vastly better prepared to deal with them on an even keel. While our current crop of statesmen claim some superiority in diplomacy, they are young children, unable to cope with the horrors they face. They simply slam the closet door until the sun comes up, a time when irrational fears succumb to the light of day. A time when hope outweighs reality.

Reality states that evil will kill you at a time of its own choosing. Hope indicates that evil will adhere to your rules. We know this not to be true, but we have a slate of presidential hopefuls who insist on slamming the closet door, at least until they are seated in the Oval Office. What they do thereafter is a matter of speculation, but I am one who is ill prepared to wait and see. I had a dad and also was a dad, who convinced my young that the best way to conquer fear was to face it…straight in the eye. My children still believe this but I must wonder…what is their current support structure? How many like them are left?

I know that the allure of the liberal movement is just that: alluring. The idea of doing your own thing, the freedom to be who you want, the exhiliaration of throwing off the chains of society. But I maintain that age bestows wisdom, and those chains are in actuality ground wires designed to keep you from burning up into ash.

At one point in our lives we were all so-called liberals. How many of us rebelled against our parents, did drugs, acted out, grew our hair long, wore vagabond clothes? And how many of us could now successfully run for public office? The answer is NONE. Why? Not because we have some deep dark secret to hide. It’s because those of us who have had role models willing to face the demons, while smiling, realize that to acknowledge these transgressions would be tantamount to advocating them.

Interestingly, the left holds the same up as a badge of courage. Is it any wonder that we are sliding into insignificance as a nation and a society? Is it any wonder that those who claim to wish us well have only their own best interests at heart?

Is it any wonder that the left is destroying America?

So You Want A Marxist Regime: Part 2

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007
There is so much more to this ideology that is frightening that I hesitated to squeeze it all in the lead post, and I have also been absorbing so much more of the same lunacy in recent days that I felt compelled to add to the original post. The Marxist regime is coming but you can now add the spectre of Stalinist, as well.

New York State Senator Carl Kruger wants to make it a criminal offense to cross the street while listening to your iPod. The penalty? Offenders would be issued a criminal court summons, have to pay a $100 fine, and appear in court. His rationale for this is summed up in this quote: “You shouldn’t be crossing streets and endangering the lives of yourself and others.” How very totalitarian of him! Why, just imagine giving citizens the freedom to cross the street.

The ban would also include cell phones, Blackberrys, MP3 players, or any other electronic device while crossing the street. Soon people will be forced to walk in single file (marching) to minimize the risk of having a conversation while you cross the street.

Also from the Socialist State of Hysteria, this sparkling gem of liberty: It is happening all over the country…laws to ban smoking in your own car with your own kids. I know, some of you will say this is bad form anyway, but it is not illegal to smoke. And the jury is still out regarding the dangers of second hand smoke, so this is nothing more than a government intrusion into your civil liberties, something the left claims to hold dear.

Don’t want to argue the merits (or lack thereof) where smoking is concerned? Fine, let’s move on to other areas where the government is trying to wrest control of our lives.

This bill, in Texas of all places, will make it a misdemeanor to miss an appointment with your child’s teacher. Think about this…another child has an emergency that you must attend to and it could cost you a $500 fine and a criminal record. How does having your overseas phone calls listened in on feel now? More or less of a threat to your freedom? Hold tight, we’re not done yet…

With this bit of tyranny from California, you could land in jail for up to a year…for disciplining your own child. I fear that we are actually much closer to spelling America with a “k” than we thought possible.

The Katrina Syndrome

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

There is much to be said of the hypocrisy of the left in America, but nothing more important than the ultimate damage it causes. And while they leave destruction and despair in their path, they march ever forward and successfully lay the blame on others, more specifically, their own country. Somehow they manage to garner the support of those they harm most in the process, which is nothing short of astounding.

The left is pressing more boldly each day to force America, inarguably the greatest nation the world has ever known, to emulate Europe, the continent we left for a better life. Does no one see the intrinsic irony in this? That is obviously a rhetorical question, but one I felt the need to throw out there nonetheless, because it seems at times that I am alone. Understandably, many of us feel the same way, which is why we take turns writing and reading articles such as this. The oblivious are not concerned enough to be here in the first place.

One glaring example of the blatant hypocrisy of which I speak is the argument being made by “intellectuals” such as (pick Hollywood star here). Forget Iraq, that dog is done hunting. But Iran…ah, now we have some juice! Iran has been sabre rattling in a fashion to make the post-mortem Kruschev envious, and yet we still have actors and dancers defending Ahmadinejad. What I find most intriguing about this, however, is their insistence that “Iran has every right to pursue nuclear power for peaceful purposes”. Is that so?

Why is it then, that when America tries to open a nuclear power plant to move towards energy independence and lower costs, that we are stifled by “concerned environmentalists” aided by lunatic politicians worried about the dangers of nuclear power? It must either be that they believe the lies of Iran, or they don’t care if those Iranian citizens have a melt down. Ha, who’s the racists now?

But I digress. Back to the damage that “concerned” environmentalists can wreak. In September on 2005, all we heard about was the government (read George W. Bush and FEMA) failures to protect New Orleans. It was the government’s fault that the levees failed. What you never got to read for any number of reasons, most likely because the stories were either buried or discredited, was that the levees were slated for vast improvements. Those improvements never happened though. Why? Here’s why:

Environmentalists were concerned about the impact levee reconstruction would have on the wetlands surrounding New Orleans. A Los Angeles Times article from September 19th of 2005 notes that “damage to wetlands, which provide natural protection against hurricane damage”, were more important than an actual barrier, built by the Army Corps of Engineers. In effect, the everglades-like surroundings would have protected against the devastating flooding more adequately. Looks like the Greenies were wrong.

So we must emulate Europe, but only in certain circumstances. For example, we must adhere to their liberal policies in regards to societal conditions, but we cannot adopt lifesaving technology, such as they have in the Netherlands. Nor Venice or London. America must explain her policy of letting people drown because of archaic earthen levees because it saves the piping plover or the spotted owl or some other ridiculous excuse, but Europe can build elaborate, modern structures to protect people from dying.

Katrina was no “racist dance”. Unless you have two left feet.

So You Want A Marxist Regime?

Saturday, February 3rd, 2007
It would appear that we fought the scourge of Communism in the twentieth century for naught, as it has been gaining momentum right here at home. Does that shock you? It should because you probably don’t believe it for a second. That’s what a good team can do; use subterfuge in a concerted effort to plot before your very eyes, undetected. Call it hiding in plain sight.
That’s what the tandem of the democrats and the main stream media have been doing; moving towards a socialist state while we look on, mesmerized by their skill in such maneuverings, while being blinded as to the ultimate destination. We’re all along for the ride but we’re seated facing the rear window and occassionally, as we watch the road go by moving away from us, someone will spot a chunk of debris and say, “Hey, wasn’t that a piece of freedom we just passed?”.
We have a woman running for President of the United States in 2008. I don’t have a problem with that at all. But that woman is also a certified Marxist judging by the comments she has made recently and the agendae she has pursued throughout her career. While that may sound alarmist or even McCarthy-esque, it would be because the main stream media has conditioned you to think that way.
There are many examples of this, but today I am going to focus on one aspect; the seizure of private finances (aside from confiscation through taxation).
The media has set up the public to be outraged by Exxon/Mobil’s “obscene profits”, blithely reporting how much money they have made. The media also dumbs it down, calculating for us just how much money Exxon made per hour. One article on the web was titled, “By The Time You Read This, Exxon Will make $6,000″. Really makes the blood boil, doesn’t it? And people say, “That’s just not right!”.
Enter Hillary to save the day. She uses phrases like the common good and people agree vigorously before they realize that she is advocating Marxism. And then, taking her cue from the distorted media reports designed to outrage the folks, she offers a solution…the government should take those profits and use them for research to make us energy independent*. Again, the people applaud like seals, unaware that this woman who would be president has just endorsed government seizure of private property. Not good, Comrade. I hope we wake up before we start renaming American cities with a “-grad” at the end.
And just to clarify things that the media will not…Exxon had FY06 revenues of $377B making their profit margin 10%. Not only that, but through the first three quarters of the fiscal year, their profits were $29B. They paid Uncle Sam $22.6B in that same time period.
One more thing: Remember the Clintons and their quest to destroy Microsoft? We don’t hear much about that anymore. The reason is, Big Oil is a sure way to hurt President Bush, so what better way than to exploit Exxon? But while Exxon reaped a 10% profit on their revenues, Microsoft saw a 29% profit margin in FY06. Food for thought.
*We have the technology and the natural resources to be energy independent. The left will not allow us to access them.
